Last night, we think, was a great, inspirational night for all involved. (At least we hope so – we sure enjoyed it a lot!) Thank you all very much for your participation. And a big, big thank you to our speakers, too. (Four of them had to leave this same night just a few hours after the event to head to south Germany/Norway/Denmark. We really appreciate all your extra efforts to make it possible to join us for TEDxKreuzberg. You guys rock!)

During the next few days we will be processing all the input we got, and also cut the videos of all talks. We will let you know where to find them as soon as we know it. (Whether it be here or on TED.com.)

We’ve been getting a few more questions regarding some basics over the last couple of days. So just to make sure, here’s the very basics once more (that you can also find here):

The recompositions mix and match the views and perspectives of both the architect and the photographer with a third, newly chosen frame. The resulting fine-art prints are entirely unique each time.

Here’s how she describes herself:

In 1999 I found myself being the only white girl in a 40 strong gospel choir during a year away from home in a New England suburb. It was the day of the first meeting, the teacher was late and it felt quaint. Suddenly a steady clapping rose from the back rows. It grew louder and louder, followed by a stomping rhythm of the colossal guy next to me. As he jacked up his voice and hollered “Hit it” Brandy came in with a “nah na na na nah”. Before I had realized what was going on the whole room was simultaneously jamming “HERE COMES THE HOTSTEPPER, MURDERA”. My brief moment of panic turned into complete bliss. It wasn’t until the big guy on my right bumped into my shoulder and went “go giiirl, get it” that I grasped I had been softly singing a long. I was ready for class. At present I make music from laptop folk to big band jazz, alone and among others– living, working and playing in Berlin._ From my roots, I call my project Josa Peit after my grandmother’s name.

Josa Peit (MySpace) arrangiert ihre von einer einfühlsamen und soulgetränkten Stimmengewalt getragenen Songs live mit Loopstation, Piano und Gitarre. Einflüsse aus Folk & Soul verbindet sie mit elektronischen, gesampelten und choralen Elementen. So entsteht abwechslungsreicher und spannungsgeladener Laptopfolk, der ihr Publikum mitreißt.

So just to give you a rough overview of what the evening will be like: Doors open 19h. Between 20h and 23h it’s time for a bunch of talks and a brief live concert by lovely Josa Peit. By the way, besides the already confirmed speakers we’re expecting a surprise guest from way north. At 23h we’ll kick off the after party, at which point we’ll also open to the public, so make sure to call your friends over!

Its peak exceeds 1000 metres and is covered with snow from September to March… Hamburg, as stiff as flat, turns green with envy, rich and once proud Munich starts to feel ashamed of its distant Alp-panorama and planners of the Middle- East, experienced in taking the spell off any kind of architectural utopia immediately design authentic copies of the iconic Berlin-Mountain. Tempelhof no longer only is on Berliners’ minds: People come in flocks to – not to see the mountain. Thus, Come and see The Berg!

Some images of The Berg

Jakob Tigges studied architecture and urban design in Aachen, Rome and Berlin. He complemented his architectural education with studies in sociology of communications at ‘La Sapienza’ in Rome and Management at ‘The London School of Economics and Political Science’, supported by generous scholarship-awards of the European Commission and the German National Merit Foundation. In his academic as in his practical work Jakob pursues to combine knowledge and methods from all the three disciplines.

After graduating in the year 2000 with the award-winning thesis ‘Villa Fantozzi’ he worked in different architectural practices in the Netherlands, Spain and Germany before starting to teach urban design at the chair of Prof. ir. Kees Christiaanse / Prof. Dr. Wouter Vanstiphout at ‘Technische Universität Berlin’ in 2003. He also works on commissions as strategic or creative planner for brand consultancies and advertising agencies.

His academic domain is the formation of ‘Strategic Urban Design’, an approach that aims at analysing and experimentally deploying the ‘real forces’ of urban development. With a small English-speaking class of international students he investigates inter-city competition in Europe and transformation in the world’s biggest, culturally most diverse and fastest changing urban societies.
